Wow, where did you meet him Katie? Bank of America isn't in Utah, so maybe I'll have to send a contribution to you in the mail. I'm so sorry for him! That's great of you to be helping out!
Why don't you put something up in Safeway? I live in Kingsgate and every time I have seen James I have wondered what I could do to help. I think if there was a picture of James with the information about his condition at Safeway. You would get a lot of donations from Safeway customers.
Just saw this very touching story on the news! Wish they had also mentioned donations were being accepted at any Bank of America. Some may have missed the website address. I'm going to make a donation there. What would be wonderful is if some kind hearted surgeon would donate his time to perform this much needed surgery. Then the donations would go further for hospital bills, medicine, follow ups ECT. So I think you should contact Oprah or another talk show. They could get him the much needed exposure. In the meantime you are a blessing and an angel for James. Thank you foe having such a big heart!!!! And don't give up.
I no longer live in Washington, but when I did, we shopped at the Kingsgate Safeway for eight years. James worked there most of that time. My children were very young when we first met James; at the age when they were discovering differences between people. While questions were usually about hair color and style, they had lots of questions about James, and were not afraid to ask. He was always very kind to them. James taught my family quite a bit and I am so excited to see the community come together to support him. He will be in our prayers. Good luck!
rfoCongrats James, simply for being you. This has kinda hit me in the heart. I'm in Australia, katie, anyone tell me - how can we help, where can we donate. Lets do something and do it as quick as we can.
You will have to visit us someday down here james.......
An angel - you definately are. I've read all the comments about where to donate, and how? For the guy in Austraila if you do Ebay (or not) you more than likely have a Pay Pal account. I just donated through there - it's so very easy. Just click on send money and in the payee section you will type: FriendsOfJamesOneal@yahoo.com, add how much money you'd like to give, press send and thats it. You don't even need to leave your chair, office or even start up your car and with the price of gas now who wants to drive! For James - it seems you are well loved by many. I especially liked the statement about having a Doctor out there step forward and perform this miracoluous surgery. AMERICA STEP FORWARD - one of our own needs help in OUR country - this honorary American isn't out there asking for handouts, or staying home collecting welfare, he is a genuine working man and now WE should give to him as he has given to his community - AMERICA UNITE - God please send a Doctor with a gracious heart to James so he will live free of this deformity and remain a pillar of the community to show strength to others who look down on themselves and realize there is HOPE and a GOD. AMEN - DEBBIE in California.
James was born with Neurofibromatosis. As a child he had surgery pretty much every year to keep up with the growths on his face. His dad would take the family on a summer vacation after his surgeries so he could recover and have fun. When he turned 18 he didn't have any more insurance to cover more surgeries. The tumors have stopped growing now and he would love to have the last procedures done. Several years ago he was told that his insurance company wouldn't cover it because he was born with the condition, so we are working toward a goal of $50,000 to cover the cost of treatment and recovery. We really won't know how much money is needed until he is thoroughly evaluated, but James is very excited that we have taken this project on, but I know he's a little leery of it actually happening. I am committed to doing everything I can to get him into the recovery room.
